Claude pricing in Australia: which plan a business actually needs.

Free, Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise. What each one costs in Australian dollars, what you get, and the plan we put most small teams on after setting up dozens of them.

How much does Claude cost in Australia?

Claude Pro costs about A$34 a month in Australia, or about A$28 a month if you pay for the year. Max starts at about A$170 a month. Team seats cost about A$49 a month each, a little less on annual billing, with a two-seat minimum. Free costs nothing but leaves out Claude Code and the strongest model.

Anthropic sets its prices in US dollars and shows Australians a local price at checkout, with GST included. The Australian figures below are what Australian accounts were shown in October 2026; the US figures come straight from Anthropic's pricing page. Check your own checkout before you budget, because exchange rates move these.

What do you get on each plan?

Every paid plan includes Claude Code, Projects, connectors and the Microsoft 365 integration. What you are really paying for as you go up is how much you can use it before you hit a limit, and on Team and Enterprise, control over who sees what.

  • Free covers chat, web search, file creation and Artifacts. Fine for a taste, not for work.
  • Pro adds Claude Code, Projects, Claude in Chrome and at least five times the usage of Free. This is where most people start.
  • Max is Pro with five or twenty times the usage, priority at busy times, and a monthly allowance of API credits for automations.
  • Team adds single sign-on, central billing, admin controls over which connectors staff can switch on, and pooled API credits. Your content is not used to train models by default.
  • Enterprise adds audit logs, user provisioning, custom data retention and spend limits, for businesses that need to prove compliance.

Which Claude plan should a small business pick?

If you are on your own, start on Pro. If two or more people will put company or client information into Claude, go straight to Team. Step up to Max, or a premium Team seat, only for the person actively building tools, and only while they are building.

The mistake we see most is the opposite: everyone on personal Pro accounts paid on their own cards, client documents scattered across them, and no way for the owner to see or switch off anything when someone leaves. Team costs a little more per head and fixes all of that.

When is Claude Max worth it?

Max is worth it when someone hits Pro's usage limit most days, which in practice means they are building with Claude Code or running long Cowork jobs. For writing, research and everyday questions, Pro is enough.

Our standing advice to owners on our workshops is simple: start on Pro, and step up to Max for the weeks you are actively building something, like a quoting tool or a dashboard. When the build is done, drop back. It is a month-to-month plan, so there is no penalty for moving.

Not sure which plan fits your team, or how to set Team up so staff actually use it? Our Claude training sets up the account with you and has each person build something on their own work before they leave.

What are the hidden costs?

The subscription is rarely the expensive part. The real costs are unused seats, staff on the wrong plan, and automations that run on API usage outside the plan.

  • API usage. An automation that runs on its own, like reading every incoming invoice, usually runs on the API and is billed per use. Max and Team include some API credit each month; past that you pay as you go. For most small business jobs this is cents per document, not dollars.
  • Seats nobody uses. A seat costs the same whether it saves ten hours a week or zero. Licences on their own change very little; people need to be shown how it fits their day.
  • Two tools doing one job. Plenty of offices already pay for Microsoft Copilot. If you are weighing Claude against it, our ChatGPT vs Copilot vs Claude comparison covers which is better at what.

Is Claude safe for business data?

On Team and Enterprise, Anthropic does not use your content to train its models by default, and admins control which connectors staff can switch on. On Free, Pro and Max, training is opt-out, so check the setting in each account. The real risk in most businesses is staff using personal accounts for company work.

For anything regulated, like health, legal or NDIS data, settle where the data is allowed to go before you choose a plan. How we handle data on every build and workshop is on our security page.

Put the whole team on the plan that lets you see and control it, and put only the builder on the big seat.

Common questions

Is Claude cheaper if you pay yearly?

Yes. Pro drops from about A$34 to about A$28 a month on annual billing, and Team standard seats also come down on annual billing. Max is monthly only.

Can a business claim the GST on Claude?

Australian prices include GST. If your business is registered for GST, you can generally claim it back as a credit like any other business expense. Add your ABN in the billing settings and confirm the treatment with your accountant.

Does Claude Code cost extra?

No. Claude Code is included in Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. What changes between plans is how much of it you can use before hitting a limit.

What is the minimum number of seats on Claude Team?

Two. Team runs from 2 to 150 seats, and you can mix standard and premium seats so only your builders pay for the bigger allowance.

Should we use Claude or ChatGPT?

It depends on the work. Claude is strongest on long, careful documents and on building tools; ChatGPT is a strong all-rounder. Many businesses end up with one of each. Our comparison of ChatGPT, Copilot and Claude goes job by job.
