ChatGPT business pricing in Australia: which plan your team actually needs.
Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise. What each one costs in Australian dollars, what changes as you go up, and why the plan matters less than whose account your company data sits in.
How much does ChatGPT Business cost in Australia?
ChatGPT Business costs A$28 a user a month on annual billing, or A$35 a month billed monthly, with a two-user minimum. A premium seat, with five times the usage, is A$140 a month annually or A$175 monthly. For one person, Plus is A$30 a month and Pro starts at A$155.
Those are the Australian dollar prices OpenAI shows Australian visitors on its ChatGPT pricing page, checked on 29 October 2026. OpenAI does not say on that page whether GST is included, so check the total at checkout before you budget. The plan that used to be called ChatGPT Team is now ChatGPT Business, so older articles quoting "Team" prices are describing the same product at an older price.
| Plan | Australian price | Billing | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | A$0 | None | Trying it out. Limited uploads, research and memory. |
| Go | A$13 a month | Monthly | Personal use with longer chats. May include ads. |
| Plus | A$30 a month | Monthly | One person using ChatGPT for work every day. |
| Pro | From A$155 a month | Monthly, three usage tiers | One heavy user doing deep research or long Codex sessions. |
| Business, standard seat | A$28 a user a month annually, or A$35 monthly | Monthly or annual, 2 to 200 users | Any business putting company or client data into ChatGPT. |
| Business, premium seat | A$140 a user a month annually, or A$175 monthly | Monthly or annual | The one or two people on a team who build and automate. |
| Enterprise | Custom pricing | Annual, through OpenAI sales | Larger organisations with compliance, audit and data residency needs. |
What do you get on each ChatGPT plan?
Every plan gives you the chat. What you pay for as you go up is how much you can use it, the stronger reasoning models, and, from Business upwards, a shared company workspace that the business controls instead of the individual. That last part is the one most owners skip.
- Free covers everyday chat with limits on uploads, image creation, deep research and memory. Fine for a taste, not for a working day.
- Go adds more messages, uploads and memory. It is built for personal use and OpenAI notes it may include ads, so we would not run a business on it.
- Plus adds the advanced reasoning models, Projects, scheduled tasks, custom GPTs, more Codex usage and the Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Google Sheets extensions. This is where most people start.
- Pro is Plus with much more of everything: a choice of three usage tiers, the strongest reasoning model, longer sessions and maximum deep research.
- Business adds a secure company workspace with SAML single sign-on and multi-factor authentication, central billing and admin, usage analytics and spend controls, connectors to Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack and more, and no training on your business data by default. You can mix standard and premium seats.
- Enterprise adds user provisioning, encryption key management, role-based access, custom data retention, data residency options and 24/7 priority support with SLAs.

Which ChatGPT plan should a small business pick?
If you are on your own, start on Plus. If two or more people will put company or client information into ChatGPT, go straight to Business. Give a premium seat only to the person actively building tools or automations, and only while they need it.
Business standard seats on annual billing cost slightly less than Plus, so price is not the reason people avoid it. The usual reason is that someone signed up for Plus on their own card months ago, then a second person did, then a third, and nobody ever made a decision. That is how a business ends up with its quotes, client emails and staff files spread across personal accounts it does not own.
What is the common mistake with ChatGPT accounts?
Staff using personal Free or Plus accounts for company work. On those plans, OpenAI can use your content to train its models unless each person opts out, the business cannot see or switch off anything, and when someone leaves, their chat history and custom GPTs leave with them.
We see this in almost every business we walk into. ChatGPT is already in use, nobody chose it, and the owner has no idea what has been pasted into it. Moving everyone onto one Business workspace fixes three things at once:
- Training. Business does not train on your data by default. On Free, Go, Plus and Pro, it is opt-out, so it depends on every staff member finding the setting.
- Ownership. The workspace belongs to the business. Projects, shared GPTs and chat history stay when someone leaves.
- Control. Admins decide which connectors staff can switch on, so nobody links the company Gmail or SharePoint on a whim.
Moving is not automatic. Anything built in a personal account has to be recreated or moved across by hand, so the earlier you decide, the less there is to move.
Already paying for ChatGPT but not sure your team is getting much out of it? Our ChatGPT training sets up the workspace with you and has each person build something on their own work before they leave.
See ChatGPT trainingIs ChatGPT safe for business data?
On Business and Enterprise, OpenAI does not train on your business data by default, data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and admins control access. On personal plans you need to opt out of training in each account. For regulated data, check where it is allowed to go before you choose any AI tool.
"Will it train on my data?" is one of the questions owners ask us most. The honest answer is that the business plan settles that part, and the rest is a short policy: what staff may paste in, what they must not, and who reviews anything that goes to a client.
How we handle data on every workshop and build is on our security page. If your office already pays for Microsoft 365 Copilot, read our ChatGPT vs Copilot vs Claude comparison before adding a second subscription that does the same job.
When is ChatGPT Pro or a premium seat worth it?
Pro or a premium Business seat is worth it when one person regularly hits the standard limits, which usually means long deep research, heavy Codex use or agents running in the background. For writing, emails, summaries and everyday questions, Plus or a standard Business seat is plenty.
Our standing advice is the same as for any AI tool: give the bigger seat to the person who builds, not to everyone. In a team on Business, that means mixing one premium seat into a set of standard seats. A premium seat also removes the five-hour usage limit and adds Dots, OpenAI's always-on agents, which matter only if someone is actually setting them up.
What are the hidden costs of ChatGPT for a business?
The subscription is rarely the expensive part. The real costs are seats nobody uses, staff on the wrong plan, paying twice for overlapping tools, and the time it takes to connect ChatGPT to the systems your work actually lives in.
- Unused seats. A seat costs the same whether it saves ten hours a week or none. Licences on their own change very little. People need to be shown how it fits their day.
- A chat box, not a system. Most owners we talk to use ChatGPT in a browser tab and copy answers out by hand. The time savings come when it is connected to your email, files and job software, and that setup is work, not a setting.
- Extra usage. OpenAI notes that Business and Enterprise can buy credits for more access beyond the seat allowance. Watch the usage analytics in the admin panel for the first month.
- Two tools for one job. Plenty of teams pay for ChatGPT and Claude, or ChatGPT and Copilot. That can be the right call, but decide it on purpose. Our Claude pricing guide has the same breakdown for Anthropic's plans.
Put the whole team in one business workspace you control, and give the big seat only to the person who builds.
Common questions
Is ChatGPT Business cheaper if you pay yearly?
Yes. A standard seat drops from A$35 to A$28 a user a month on annual billing, and a premium seat from A$175 to A$140. Go, Plus and Pro are billed monthly.
Can I get ChatGPT Business for just one person?
No. Business starts at two users and runs up to 200. A sole trader is better on Plus, with training switched off in the data controls settings.
Is ChatGPT Team the same as ChatGPT Business?
Yes. OpenAI renamed the Team plan to Business. Older articles and invoices may still say Team, and prices quoted in them may be out of date.
Can a business claim the GST on ChatGPT?
If your business is registered for GST and the invoice shows GST, you can generally claim it back like any other business expense. Add your ABN in the billing settings and confirm the treatment with your accountant.
Are there discounts for not-for-profits?
Yes. OpenAI offers eligible nonprofits up to 75% off ChatGPT Business or Enterprise through its nonprofit program, arranged through its sales team.
How do I pay for ChatGPT Business?
Go, Plus, Pro and Business can be paid by any major credit card. Enterprise is arranged through OpenAI's sales team, with options such as invoicing.
