KR Surveys is a Perth surveying and utility locating company. We trained the director and his team on AI and built a one-button job setup app with them, replacing the manual steps every new job used to need.
Who is KR Surveys?
KR Surveys is a Perth surveying and utility locating company, established in 2014. Its surveyors work on road and rail projects, mine sites, subdivisions and residential site surveys. Its locating team finds and maps underground services before anyone digs.
The business runs largely out of Microsoft Teams, with a channel for every job.
What was slowing down every new job?
Every job needed the same setup before any survey work could start. Someone had to create the job, give it a job number, create a Teams channel for it and raise an order in the docket app. Each step was typed in by hand.
None of it was hard, but it happened for every piece of work that came in. Each step was another chance for a job number or a name to be keyed in wrong, and more time spent on data entry instead of surveying.
The director had already automated parts of his own admin with AI, and some of the team were using Claude to help with their survey and design software. The next step was to make that work for the whole business, starting with the job everyone repeats.
What did we do with KR Surveys?
We trained the director and his team on Claude, set them up on the Microsoft tools they already use, and built a one-button job setup app with them.
Training came first. Each person got the Claude desktop app and Claude Code set up and connected to Teams and OneDrive, then learned how to use the tools properly on their own real work.
Then we built the app with them. Enter a new job once, and the job number, the Teams channel, the right people and the docket order are all created from that single entry.
What did it achieve?
Setting up a new job went from a string of manual steps to one button. There is less re-keying, fewer chances for a typo, and every job is set up the same way.
Because the team was trained on the same tools, they now have a shared way to tackle the next repeated task, rather than each person working it out alone.
